These services are appropriate for individuals who need daily, 24-hour awake supervision. These individuals may need substantial support in all or some of the following life areas: Health and Wellness, Medication Management, Diet, Behavioural Intervention, Communication, Personal Care, Home Management, Transportation, Money Management, and/or Recreation. Other specific supports can be tailored to meet individuals’ needs.


Individuals in this program would meet the following criteria:

  • 24-hour awake supervision would be necessary.
  • The individual may have significant behavioural issues.
  • The individual may be living away from home for the first time.
  • The individual may not be able to handle emergency situations without support.
  • The individual may need support with transportation
  • The individual would need support taking prescribed medication.
  • Personal care and home management assistance would be necessary.
  • The individual would need support attending necessary medical appointments.
  • The individual would need considerable support with their finances. These individuals may have little or no concept of the value of money.

These services are appropriate for individuals who need daily support yet do not require 24-hour assistance. Some individuals may need overnight supervision. TSLA supports are offered in both apartment and home settings. Individuals in this service classification may require training in the following areas: Health and Wellness, Medication Management, Personal Care, Home Management, Financial Management, and/or Recreation. Other supports may be tailored to meet any other specific needs. Individuals in this program typically live with one roommate in a two-bedroom apartment or with 3 roommates in a home setting. Each individual has their own bedroom and all common areas of the apartment or home are shared.


Individuals in this program would meet the following criteria:

  • Daily staff assistance would be appropriate but 24-hour supervision would not be required.
  • An overnight staff may or may not be necessary
  • The individual would be able to handle basic emergency situations without the support of another party. (Be able to call 911 or a BAI employee)
  • The individual would have basic transportation skills. They may be able to ride the city bus and would be able to ride the Para-Transit bus independently.
  • The individual may need support taking prescribed medication.
  • Some Personal Care and Home Management assistance may be necessary.
  • The individual may need support with basic finances. Individuals that qualify for this level of support often require assistance with budgeting.
  • Individuals in this service category receive between 8 and 20 hours of staff support per day.

These are services for individuals independent enough to live on their own who only require minimal assistance. We usually assist individuals in this category with programs directed toward money management, basic health needs, etc. SLA recipients usually live in either a studio or one bedroom apartment.


Individuals in this program would meet the following criteria:

  • Daily staff support would not be necessary
  • The individual has previously lived on their own or with roommates. (Individuals coming directly from living with parents or other family members should initially consider ISLA or TSLA services.)
  • The individual would be able to handle emergency situations without staff support.
  • The individual would have transportation skills. They would be able to drive their own car or would be able to ride the city bus independently.
  • The individual would be able to take any prescribed medication independently.
  • The individual would be able to schedule and keep medical appointments with minimal support. If necessary, they would be able to attend medical appointments on their own.
  • The individual would have basic money skills. They would be able to give and receive correct change. They would be able to pay bills but may need some assistance with budgeting.
  • Usually these individuals receive between 5 and 20 hours of staff support per week.
